Women who have recently undergone a mastectomy ("breast cancer surgery") may be interested in correcting their loss of breast tissue with plastic surgery, which will help to restore their natural body contour. Matthew B. Baker, M.D. is a Denver breast reconstruction revision specialist who can help a woman repair one or both of her breasts following a mastectomy, using breast prosthesis (implants) or soft tissue.
At the Baker Center for Plastic Surgery, you can expect to be treated with compassionate patient care. Dr. Baker will attentively listen to your concerns and needs, and he will take the time to create the most appropriate plan to fit your plastic surgery goals. By tailoring breast reconstruction surgery to your needs, Dr. Baker will be able to provide you with results that are natural-looking and complementary to your overall anatomy. He offers meticulousness and perfectionism, and the absolute best quality of service to his patients.
Often, the simplest and most reliable method of breast reconstructive surgery is with a permanent prosthesis; this is done with the insertion of saline or silicone gel breasts implants. Dr. Baker will perform breast reconstruction by first placing a tissue expander either at the time of the initial mastectomy or after the breast cancer surgery, once the patient is completely healed. Over a course of four to six weeks, the tissue expander is progressively filled to create a pocket, which will be used to make room for the breast implant. During a second operation, Dr. Baker will replace the expanders with permanent breast implants.
The other method for breast reconstruction surgery is the use of soft tissue to reconstruct an absent breast; this is known as "autologous breast reconstruction." With this technique, Dr. Baker will use tissue, skin, and muscle from the patient's back or abdomen to reconstruct a natural-looking breast.
